Hernan Biava is Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Brevard College in Brevard, NC. He was born in Argentina where his grandparents immigrated from Italy. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry with Honors at the National University of Rosario, Argentina. His professional experience includes several teaching and research positions in four countries: Argentina, France, Germany, and the United States. He has taught courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and published more than 15 papers in international scientific journals. He is a firm believer in the power of education as a tool for social change and personal growth. 

Sharad H. Creasman is the College Minister of Brevard College in Brevard, N C and a Chaplain in the US Air Force Reserve. He previously served as Senior Pastor of Columbia Drive United Methodist Church in Decatur, Ga. Sharad is a native of Brevard, NC and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Clemson University, a Master of Theology from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, a Master of Divinity from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Brevard College.  Sharad has had the honor of being the Guest Chaplain for the United States Senate.

Roger G. Herbert, Jr, Captain, United States Navy (retired). Dr. Herbert retired in August 2021 as the Robert T. Herres Distinguished Military Professor of Ethics at the United States Naval Academy.  A 1983 graduate of Davidson College, Dr. Herbert holds a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School (1992), a Master of Science in National Security Studies from the National War College (2005), and a Ph.D. in International Relations and Political Theory from the University of Virginia (2016).   Dr. Herbert received his commission as an officer in the United States Navy through Officer Candidate School in 1984.  He graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Class 131 in 1985 and reported to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO (a SEAL team that specializes in undersea operations).  Following his retirement with the rank of captain and prior to joining the faculty at the US Naval Academy as professor of ethics, Dr. Herbert served as Head of School for The Outdoor Academy (a semester school in Western North Carolina for high-achieving teens that focuses on character education, experiential learning, and leadership) and a backpacking instructor for NOLS (the National Outdoor Leadership School). 

Alydia Monahan  is a Junior at Brevard College studying psychology. She works at Pisgah Health Foundation as their lead for starting a poverty reduction program. Alydia lives here in Brevard where she also grew up. She looks forward to going to grad school outside of Brevard in the future to study cultural anthropology.

Zaibun Jangda has lived in Brevard NC for over 40 yrs. She worked at Transylvania hospital for close to 30yrs.  She worked in radiology as a technician, She performed ultrasound,X-ray, nuclear medicine and cat scans. Since her retirement, she has been a volunteer at Bread of Life and at El Centro.

Patience Camp came to Brevard when she was a baby. Adopted by a loving family, Brevard became her residence. Shortly after graduation from high school, Patience entered the local community college.  During this time, Patience went blind in one eye, the first of many health challenges to come.  Her vision did return, but was not entirely normal.  She worked as a hair stylist and later moved to Georgia where she attended college and lived until she returned to Brevard due to complications of a pregnancy.  She now had three children and became active in a local church.  At age 33, Patience was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and was dangerously ill for ten years.  When she was able to return to normal activities, she joined the Transylvania County Community Relations Board.  She is currently the Director of Human Relations at SAFE.
